This research paper discusses Linda Hogan’s novel Power (1999) in the light of the concepts of speciesism and environmental racism. The mistreatment of nature, animals as well as the people belonging to the colored communities across the globe is a common theme in both these terms. This paper emphasizes on the oppression of the Native Americans and several animals in relation to the environmental degradation and shows that there is a close connection between the oppression of environment, race, and certain living species. In Power, the Native novelist advocates the rights of the living species. She brings out multiple methods and modes of oppression of non-human species alongside the marginalization of human beings by the powerful group—the Euro Americans in this case. The characters in Power exist in a place where the mere existence and survival of the human and non-human species has been rendered impossible through the forceful implementation of the U.S. imperialist policies.
