On behalf of the executive of the Solomon Islands Chinese Association, our members, and the Chinese community, we would like to thank you and the police officers, including those from the Rapid Response Team, who have risked their lives in trying to protect us and our properties during the recent riots, lootings and burnings. We are also very relieved that the military and police components of the Australia forcesAustralian Forces, together with those from Fiji, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea have come to our assistance with the leadership and command from your office.
The continuous proactive investigations, arrests, and recovery of stolen properties by the police also have our high commendation, and we look forward to continuing with whatever support we can provide to your officers in this regard.
We would be most appreciative if you could brief and update us as to what arrangements are in place after the departure of the foreign forces. This request is mainly to alleviate our members’ fears and concerns after the recent traumatic event. We are sure you understand the uncertainty that our members and the community are feeling right now, from a law and order and security perspective.
As a lot of businesses are preparing for the redevelopment of their properties, they are very concerned for the safety of their investment. They would like assurance that preventive measures will be put in place to avoid a repeat of the recent destruction.
