What is art? Art is order. Art is chaos. Art is rage,. Art is tranquility. Art is simply infinite; it is surface, as well as symbol. Art is philosophy, hence art is not material but a way of life. Fashion to me is art that wields the power to uniquely impact all. Something, something which fuses the realm of the aesthetic with the pragmatism of the modern world in order to communicate a contemplative thought process. Unlike fine arts, the sphere of which is often contained to intellectuals or artists, fashion has an impact on everyone because everything ranging from the drape of a fabric to the texture of the garment serves to reveal the philosophy and sensitivities of an individual. This veiled interpretation and personal connection has been lost in the world of mindless consumerism and fast fashion. The era of a delicate connection is one of the past while the current world desperately searches for ingenuity and a presentation of something argumentative in the competitive world of fashion. We need that same connection but more poignant and chaotic, reflecting the times we live in and the world we choose to shape. All for the romantic notion of being a part of something greater than themselves as explored in Shelley’sShelley and Keats’s poetry. Fashion needs to reflect that individuality and zeal to leave an impactulimpactful proof of existence while reestablishing lost sensitivities. This romanticised love of being is what drives my creativity and desire to pursue this field at one of the most coveted universities and experience all it has to offer.
