The award-winning author Deborah Ellis has written many novels. A few examples are Parvana’s Journey and Mud City, both of which are from the Breadwinner series. She also wrote No Ordinary Day. In thethese three novels, girls with no family travel on their own to get to a better life. Mud City takes place in Pakistan. In the story, a girl thatwho goes by the name of Shauzia wants to get a job and find somewhere to live. She goes off on a journey to earn money. In Parvana’s Journey, a novel that takes place in Afghanistan, a strong young girl must find her mother and her siblings after her father dies. She meets several other children and helps them get to the nursing area across the land. Other characters are Hassan, Asif, Leila, and her mother. In No Ordinary Day, a young girl named Valli gets told that her family isn’t her real family. She does not like them, because they are mean to her. She decides to leave to get to a better life. This book starts in Jharia and ends in Calcutta. The other characters are Dr. Indra, her not-family, and the other patients in the hospital.
