Stargazers from all over the world converged near Hilo, Hawaii during the full Moonmoon to view a partial solar eclipse. They came to spend a chilly morning in the observatory atop Thethe volcano Mauna Kea, which is nearly 14,000 feet tall. As the Sunsun hid more and more of the Moonmoon, the cheerscheering began. When the eclipse werewas total, the cheers became ancheering turned into a deafening roar. It was a rare totally eclipse visible from the Northern and Western Hemispheres. Most eclipses can usually be seen only in the Southern Hemisphere. The location was a real plus for Gin- Wei Chang, a devoted Observerobserver. "I've seen five in a row now, and this one is the better because I didn't have to travel so far", she said. "Last time, I had to watch from an island in the indian oceanIndian Ocean." For all their preparation and excitement, the observers had little time to enjoy the view. The Sun'ssun's total disappearance, which began at 1107 A.M., lasted only 4 minutes.
