Over ConfidentOver-Confident Flyers No Match For Underdog Rams.
Going into Friday nightnight's game, the Dayton FlyerFlyers were favored by 7seven points against the Road Island Rams. The Rams went on to win 72-70 Inin OT at UD areaarena. Dedicated fans are disappointed with the team’s performance. Especially, especially since the Flyers had no problem beating the Rams on their home court the first time meeting earlier this year, beating them 77- 48. While the game was close at halftime, with a score of 38-31, the Rams had a stronger second half, ending the game with the Winwin. Obi Toppin and Ryan Mikesell were the Flyers,Flyers' Friday Night Highlights, with a career high 26 points for Toppin and 23 points for Mikesell. Toppin was 11-for-14 from the freefree- throw line, and Mikesell had 11 rebounds, both impressive performances. But Impressiveimpressive performances and homecourthome-court advantage just wasn’t enough.
While homecourthome-court advantage in college basketball is critical. Few, few sports have the benefit of the home court likethe way college basketball does. College football teams may draw bigger crowds, but the indoor environment of the college basketball arena generally favors the home team. The noise and enthusiasm of the crowd can make all the difference in the teamsteam's performance. According to the NCAA website, there is a considerable difference in the number of wins on the road versus the number at home. The average Division 1 team wins 34.1 percent of its games on the road, and 68.5 percent of its games at home.
