The article “The Anthropology of Manners” by Edward T. Hall suggestsuggests that different cultures have their own rules of good and bad manners. Society tends to define a person forby the way they behavehe/she behaves in regard to the culture of theirhis/her country, and that behavior often becomes theirthe person's identity. However, Hall states that one culture may see itview certain behavior as good manners but itwhile those same behaviors may also be considered bad manners in other cultures. He mentions the cultural differences, such as time, tone of voice and personal space. Hall gives different examples, such asstating that physical or personal space may vary in other cultures from the United States. In the United States a person would feel uncomfortable feelingbeing touched, but in many parts of Latin America touching isoccurs much somore often. It is necessary to respect others’ pointpoints of view regarding manners, keeping our view on our sideviews to ourselves, at least after knowing the importance of these manners in their placerespective cultures. If we want to have a good relationship with someone, we need to let it be a friendly or a business one, we. We must understand one another’s manners, so that we don’t end up doing the wrong thing. It will certainly help us to move ahead in our life beingand allow us to be compatible with other members inof society.
