​Dropping out of college, for many students, is a very risky thought, but. But one with an undeniable appeal due to the huge amount of pressure they undergo. While some students have it as a passing thought, others take the idea into consideration and eventually act on it. According to credit donkey, ' 57% of students enrolled in college are not done after six years. Of that 57%, 33% of them drop out entirely.' [1] What are the reasons behind these high rates of dropouts? There are numerous reasons why college students drop out, but in this essay, two of the most common causes will be discussed.
​One of the main reasons why students quit college is because of the negative influence from the people that they surround themselves with. When students have people in their lives that produce a bad effect on them, it often leads to a huge strain on the students. If they make acquaintances with dropout peers who do not have to study all the time and are pressure free, they experience an envious feeling, wishing they were the dropouts thatwho are able to live freely. Furthermore, some undergraduates have families that are against the choice of career that their daughter/son chose, which puts a great pressure on them. The pressing need to satisfy their family members and the repeated and irritating criticism these students face serve as the ideal push to quit college.
