In 1517, Martin Luther, a German monk, stuck a letter to the door of the Catholic Church that changed Europe. This letter was known as the 95 thesesTheses. This letter was an act of rebellion. Martin Luther felt the Catholic churchChurch had strayed from its original purpose as a holy place, when it began accepting money in exchange for forgiveness. The 95 Theses forever changed the Christian religion; this event was made possible because of the Protestant Revolution and the invention of the printing press. The result of this revolution was a change in the religious options of the time period. Previously one could be Catholic,; following Martin Luther’s rebellion, one could be Catholic or Protestant.
