An anesthesiologist is “a physician specializing solely in anesthesiology and related areas.” (Medical Dictionary). Anesthesiology is also defined as“ theas “the science of administering anesthetics.” (Dictionary.com). An anesthesiologist is a physician that is accountable and trained to administer and manage anesthesia during a surgical procedure. They are accountable for observing and treating changes in critical life functions such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure etc during and after a surgical procedure. They’re also responsible for diagnosing and treating any medical conditions that might arise during and after surgery. An anesthesiologist is responsible for the evaluation of a patient's medical condition and the creation of an anesthetic plan, which is the type and amount of anesthesia appropriate for the patient's age, weight, and length of surgery etc. The anesthetic plan also needs to account for the patient's medical history, lifestyle, and current and past medications.
