An example of an “aha” moment in my previous experience as a retail Manager was, when I was tasked to help in reducing outdated milk in the dairy department. By Gestalt principle of simplicity, I trained the dairy staff to always stock the close -dated milk at the very front of the racks, and the fresh one (new ones) inat the back of the close -dated ones. This was a complete failure,; we had issues with customers pulling the close -dated ones out on the floor and reaching for the fresh (new ones) in the back.
I later came up with a restructured idea of stocking all the close -dated milk together to the cooler doors, and the new ones at the bottom of the rack. This solved the problem of customers going through the milk racks and looking for the new ones because they assumed that the ones at the bottom had the same dates as the ones close to the cooler doors. This resulted in an Aha experience by restructuring the solution to the problem.
