M2M is a similar concept of connecting things, and has been in use in different places since early 1990s (Höller et al., 2014). So, M2M and IoT are two distinct concepts:. IoT is wider, and is a development from M2M in terms of connectivity, application and storage. The main purpose of M2M is to continue the connectivity between a specific machine and the remote host in a fixed, proprietary installation, which is generally configured to monitor and control only those specific types of machines; i.e., vertical solutions.
