However, what makes the Novelnovel a coming of age story is when Mia’s family is involved in a car crash, which left her in a coma, the. The doctors are unsure if she’ll survive. Mia’s left to figure out if she wants to fight for her life, and stay in the world of the living, or leave and be with her family in the afterlife. During the novel we see many memories of her life before the crash, giving the readers a connection to Mia.

One of the main, and strongest themes in the book is Musicmusic; Almostalmost everyone in Mia’s life, including her, plays or used to play Musicmusic. Mia faces many insecurities due to her Musicmusical taste being different to her families and their friends, however. However, she stays true to herself and plays the music she enjoys. The readers quickly learn that without Musicmusic, Mia would be lost and unsure.
